NDLEA arrests policeman for supplying drugs to Boko-Haram in Borno

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in Yobe, said it had arrested a policeman and a drug trafficker, names withheld, for allegedly conniving and supplying 59kg of prohibited Tramadol tablets to Boko Haram insurgents in Gwoza, Borno.Reuben Apeh, the NDLEA state Commander, while addressing newsmen in Damaturu, said that the suspects were arrested on Nov. 7.

Mr Apeh said the drug trafficker had confessed buying the prohibited substance from an unnamed customs officer in Lagos.“He confessed hiring the policeman to convey the drugs to Maiduguri before proceeding to Gwoza to supply suspected terrorists.

“He claimed that the drugs were part of consignments seized by the Nigeria customs during its operations in Lagos, and were sold to him at the cost of N6 million, while the actual market value stands at N24 million.

“We are still working on him to provide us with the details of the alleged customs officer and another accomplice he claimed was based in Ijora, Lagos.

“The drugs were transported from Lagos to Jos, and handed over to the policeman for delivery to Maiduguri, where he (trafficker) will take it to suspected terrorists in Gwoza,” Apeh said.

He said that the suspects would soon be charged to court with the exhibits.

The Commander appealed to other stakeholders and the public, to collaborate with the agency in curbing the menace of drug trafficking and consumption.

Apeh also commended his personnel for their incorruptible stand and firm dedication to duty, saying “you have done the command and the agency proud”.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked governors of the south-west to rename Amotekun because it has a biblical origin.

Amotekun, the Western Nigeria Security Network is a Yoruba word which means leopard.

In a statement on Monday, Ishaq Akintola, the director of MURIC’s director, said Muslims can’t be part of Amotekun because it has its origin in the Bible.

MURIC“Jeremiah 5:6 says, ‘A leopard shall guard over their city’. Amotekun is mentioned in this verse with particular reference to guarding a city. Now, we have a sub-region where Muslims have been under persecution for ages coming up with a security outfit under the name of the same leopard mentioned in the bible as a guard over the city,” he said.

“This is not a coincidence. The handlers of Amotekun picked the name deliberately from the bible in order to score a spiritual point. It is very critical. It calls for serious concern. So why give a security unit a religious name?“We advise the planners of the new security outfit to give it another name in the interest of peace and harmony in the sub-region. This is necessary if they want to carry all stakeholders along. Amotekun as a name is already controversial. We do not need a Christian security unit. Neither do we need a Muslim security outfit. The security agency in the South West must not only be neutral, but it must also be seen to be neutral.

“We affirm that Muslims form the majority in the population of the south-west. They are therefore critical stakeholders and the unity of the Yoruba cannot become fait accompli without involving the Muslims in the sub-region. Muslims must be carried along in any security network in the zone. We are interested in security. We are security conscious.

“We will, therefore, join a South West security initiative if it is not tainted with Christian landmarks. We will have confidence in a security outfit that involves Muslim leaders, not one that parades pastors, bishops and archbishops alone.

“It must also be noted that a security group that starts with subtle threats to our brethren in faith in another part of the country cannot be safe for Muslims in Yorubaland. There is no racism or tribalism in Islam (Qur’an 49:13). It is a global brotherhood. Yoruba Muslims love Yorubaland. They also love Nigeria. But they owe their Creator, Allah, an unflinching and undiluted love towards their brothers and sisters in Islam no matter their race, tribe or colour.”

Lack Of Education Made Burnaboy Lose Grammy – Naomi Campbell Sends Open Letter To Organizers

Famous celebrity model Naomi Campbell has taken to her Instagram page to write a passionate letter to the organizers of the Grammys.

According to her, it was due to lack of education that made the singer lose the award he truly deserved. She stressed that the Grammys are yet to recognise in full the beauty and impact of the African music and when they do, it won’t be difficult for artistes like Burnaboy to bag a Grammy award.

Her letter reads:

“First, I want to say deepest congratulations to @angeliquekidjo for her award on Sunday, and thank you to you for spreading light and opening minds through your music… •

And to our AFRICAN GIANT, @burnaboygram… it is only due to lack of education that you have not been honored with the accolades you so truly deserve. You are always a winner in our hearts. ALWAYS.

•And to The @RecordingAcademy, There is something that brings joy, strength and happiness to myself, and to so many people that hear it, and it is called Afrobeats. Afrobeats is a musical genre played on mainstream and primetime radio not only across the continent of Africa, but across the world… •

Recently, the genre was categorized into your ‘World Music’ category at the 2020 Grammys. This misrepresentation diminishes an entire genre in which such a high standard of talent has emerged; a genre that has been a force of hope and positivity for many, and a vehicle for artistry on the continent of Africa. •

Please take the next 363 days to reassess and reflect on your perspective of ‘World Music.’ Did the world get to vote for this award, or was it only the people in the United States a part of The Recording Academy? What will this neglectful categorization of music mean to individual cultures? Cultures who contribute their blood, sweat and tears, and every level of their creativity and work ethic into making music for YOU and for all of us. •

Please get up to speed on the state of all popular music today, and include Afrobeats Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and all the subcategories that this genre so deserves – just as any other respected and recognized musical genre. •

This is bigger than you, so open your eyes, ears and minds and treat us right and with the respect we deserve. ❤️??❤️?? #ForTheCulture #NAOMIAFRICA #grammys”

The Supreme Court had declared Senator Hope Uzodimma as governor of Imo State, a member of the ruling All progressives Congress, APC. But before his emergence as governor , In the case file now being handled by the Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, in line with Executive Order 6, Uzodinma had been placed on travel ban along with other 49 alleged treasury looters. The Special Presidential Investigation Panel led by Okoi Obono-Obla now dissolved in September 2019 while Obono-Obla, is said to have seen to most of these cases including that of Senator Uzodinma. Uzodinma, according to the panel, allegedly perpetrated fraud to the tune of $12m (N4.3bn) when he failed to execute a contract worth $12m awarded to his company by the Nigerian Ports Authority for the dredging of the Calabar Channel. The Federal Government had banned 50 persons from traveling abroad over corruption cases. The ban followed a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari for the full implementation of Executive Order 6. The Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies had been directed to place the 50 persons on their watch-list, pending the determination of their corruption cases. The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, in a statement, had stated that following the instant judicial affirmation of the constitutionality and legality of the Executive Order 6 (EO6), President Buhari has mandated the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to implement the Order in full force. “To this end, a number of enforcement procedures are currently in place by which the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies have placed no fewer than 50 high-profile persons directly affected by EO6 on watch-list and restricted them from leaving the county pending the determination of their cases,” he said. He said the financial transactions of these persons of interest are being monitored by the relevant agencies to ensure that the assets are not dissipated and such persons do not interfere with, or howsoever corrupt the investigation and litigation processes.  “It is instructive to note that EO6 was specifically directed to relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure that all assets within a minimum value of N50 million or equivalent, subject to investigation or litigation are protected from dissipation by employing all available lawful means, pending the final determination of any corruption-related matter,” the media statement reads. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, is also investigating Uzodinma for allegedly issuing a N200m dud cheque, however, said the new governor could not be touched because of his immunity. Uzodinma had also been arrested by the panel but was released due to high blood pressure he suffered in custody, according to Obono-Obla. The Obono – Obla panel had also dragged Uzodinma before Justice Babatunde Quadri of the Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged non-disclosure of assets. One of the charges read, “That you, Senator Hope Uzodinma (male) on or about March 5, 2018, being a public officer with the National Assembly, Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, committed an offence to wit: refused to declare your assets without reasonable excuse upon notice to declare your assets before the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, Abuja, contrary to and punishable under Section 3(3)(1)(a) of the Recovery of Public Property (Special Provision) Act 2004.” But as governor, he now enjoy immunity from prosecution according to the Nigerian constitution.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has condemned the terrorist killing of the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Lawan Andimi, describing it as cruel, inhuman and deliberately provocative. The retired general stated this in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Tuesday. He regretted that “the terrorists killed the religious leader while giving signals of a willingness to set him free by releasing him to third parties.” He consoled the Christian community all over Nigeria, the government and people of Adamawa as well as the Bishop’s family over the sad loss of the man of God. He said the terrorists would continue to pay a heavy price for their actions and ”comprehensively be defeated by our determined armed forces”. ‘Most Offerings In Church Are A Curse’ – TB Joshua

Nigerian Prophet, TB Joshua has sensationally declared that “most offerings collected in churches all over the world are a curse, not a blessing.” Joshua said this at the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) while responding to a question raised about why offerings are not collected during his weekly Monday ‘Living Water Service’.“We cannot begin bothering distressed people – I mean, the sick ones, the poor ones – asking for financial support,” the cleric explained.Adding that although it was Scriptural to collect an offering, “The question remains: Whom are we asking for support? The distressed, the sick, the poor?”Enlightening congregants further, he stated, “When you are healed and delivered, your ‘Thank you’ is a blessing from God. But when you are distressed, your ‘Thank you’ is distress. When you are sick, your ‘Thank you’ is sick. You are your ‘Thank you’ because you cannot live above your word. That is why most gifts today are a curse, not a blessing… That is why you have to be very careful.”

Buhari Congratulates APC, Ganduje, Lalong Over Supreme Court’s Verdict

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Supreme Court judgement that upheld the election of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and Simon Lalong of Plateau State on Monday.

The President felicitated with the APC National Executive Council, National Working Committee and all members for what he described as their loyalty and consistency that translated into many victories, “particularly the politically strategic states, Kano and Plateau, after tough legal challenges

“I am glad this tortuous journey has ended in favour of the party and our governors,” he said, in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu.

“APC won the states and has proved it in court. It would have been a major blow if strategically important states like Kano and Plateau are lost.”

While congratulating all the APC governors whose elections were affirmed by the Supreme Court, the President urged electorates and politicians to strengthen the country’s judicial processes by always seeking redress in court.

“It has now become standard procedure for the opposition to challenge any poll or judgement that does not return its candidates.

Election is good when they win. The opposite is the case if someone else emerges. But that is not the way it works. Democracy is not only about who wins or who loses, but also about the process. In disparaging every unfavourable result or judgement, they disparage the entire system.”
